A few weeks ago, one of Anthropicโs most advanced AI models just… stopped working. Not a glitch. Not a bug. The government told them to shut it down, and they did for almost three weeks.
Nobody saw it coming. Businesses that had built workflows around it woke up one day and it was just gone.
Hereโs the part nobody in the โAI will change your lifeโ crowd wants to say out loud: the tool doesnโt belong to you.
You donโt own ChatGPT. You donโt own Claude. You donโt own Midjourney. Youโre renting space on somebody elseโs server, and that somebody can pull the plug for reasons that have nothing to do with you a policy change, a lawsuit, a government order, a pricing shift, whatever.
Iโve watched people build entire businesses on one single AI tool. One workflow. One subscription. And it works great, until the day it doesnโt.
This isnโt me telling you to be scared of AI. I use it every single day, for everything from email copy to product creation. This is me telling you the truth: treat every AI tool like a contractor, not a co-founder.
A contractor does great work for you. But you donโt hand them the keys to your whole business. You keep your client list. You keep your process documented. You keep a plan B.
So hereโs what that actually looks like in real life:
If youโre using one AI tool to write your Content ideas, know how to write a decent one yourself, or have a second tool you could switch to this week if you had to.
If your entire content plan depends on one image generator, save your prompts, your style references, your process, somewhere that isnโt inside that tool.
If your business runs on one platformโs automation, understand what itโs actually doing, so if it disappears, youโre not starting from zero.
None of this means donโt use AI. Use it. Use it aggressively. Itโs genuinely one of the best unlocks of our lifetime for people trying to build something without a big team or a big budget.
It just means donโt confuse โthis tool makes my life easierโ with โthis tool is bulletproof.โ Nothing in this industry is bulletproof right now. Not the models, not the pricing, not the access. Itโs moving too fast for anyone to promise you stability.
The people who are going to win the next few years arenโt the ones who found the one perfect tool. Theyโre the ones who stayed flexible enough to switch when their tool changed on them, because it will.
Build with AI. Just donโt build your whole house on one toolโs foundation.
